Description
When you choose to stay in the Hotel Albert 2 in Oostende you will be staying in a historical building that has seen many changes.
It was first built in 1850 and called the ‘Hotel de Flandres’ in of course the ‘Vlaanderenstraat’.
It was one of the most important hotels in Oostende and had a central gate leading to a courtyard and stables.
In 1891 a new building was erected incorporating a shopping gallery and cafes, where the stables had previously been situated. It was then renamed Hotel Leopold II.
The hotel as it then was, is shown in a painting by the famous Ostend painter James Ensor entitled -
In 1928 the gallery was extended to the Christinastraat,
where an apartment building was built in Art Deco style.
In the course of 1946-
to the trends of that period, and in 1954 the name was changed
o the ‘James Ensor Gallery’ and the hotel was now known as the
hotel George V.
In 2008 the hotel was renamed Hotel Albert 2 Oostende.
